Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country’s leading carmaker, has just showcased a teaser of its first electric SUV, the e VITARA, marking its entry into the EV segment. The SUV will make its local debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, scheduled between January 17 and 22, across Delhi NCR.
Built on the HEARTECT-e Platform
The e VITARA is based on the HEARTECT-e platform, a born-electric architecture designed exclusively for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This platform supports the SUV’s advanced features and provides the foundation for its ALLGRIP-e 4WD system, offering improved off-road capabilities. The ALLGRIP-e system includes a Trail Mode, which ensures superior traction by redistributing torque and braking spinning tyres.
Powertrain and Range Options
The e VITARA will come with two battery configurations:
- 49 kWh Battery: Produces 142 bhp and 189 Nm of torque in the 2WD variant, offering a range of around 400 km.
- 61 kWh Battery: Boosts power to 172 bhp in the 2WD variant and delivers up to 300 Nm of torque in the 4WD version, with an expected range exceeding 500 km.
Both variants are equipped with LFP battery cells supplied by BYD, promising long-lasting and efficient performance. The SUV will also feature single and dual electric motor layouts for varying performance needs.
Key Features
The e VITARA introduces a fresh design language for Maruti Suzuki, blending smooth-flowing lines and elegant creases while maintaining a sporty appeal. Key highlights include:
- Y-shaped LED DRLs with a prominent Suzuki badge
- Comprehensive EV ecosystem, including home charging solutions and a network of fast chargers at Maruti Suzuki dealerships
- ALLGRIP-e 4WD system for enhanced off-road performance
Tough Terrain Ahead
The e VITARA is set to compete in the growing midsize electric SUV market against rivals like the Tata Curvv, the Mahindra BE 6, and the Hyundai Creta EV, all of which will also be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
Production and Launch Timeline
The e VITARA will be manufactured at Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Gujarat facility, with sales beginning in the summer of 2025. It will also spawn a Toyota sibling, further expanding its market presence. The SUV will be retailed through Nexa dealerships in India, emphasizing its premium positioning.
