Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has announced a significant recall of 92,672 vehicles, targeting several of its popular models due to issues with defective fuel pumps. This recall, aimed at preventing potential engine malfunctions, includes models such as the Brio, Jazz, WR-V, BR-V, Amaze, and City, all produced between August 2017 and June 2018.

Models Affected by the Recall:

The breakdown of affected units is as follows:

Honda Brio3,317 Units
Honda City32,872 Units
Honda Amaze18,851 Units
Honda Jazz16,744 Units
Honda WR-V14,298 Units
Honda BR-V4,386 Units
Units Affected

Additionally, 2,404 units where the fuel pump had been replaced as a spare part are also part of this recall, bringing the total number of affected vehicles to 92,672.

Reason for the Recall

The issue stems from fuel pumps with defective impellers that could cause the engine to either stall or fail to start. Honda’s official statement mentions that the problem could worsen over time, which is why the recall is crucial for the affected cars.

This is not the first time Honda has faced fuel pump issues. A previous recall in June 2020 impacted 65,651 vehicles. This latest recall campaign further expands upon the earlier one, ensuring comprehensive coverage of potentially affected vehicles.

What Should Owners Do?

Honda has reassured its customers that the replacement of the defective fuel pumps will be carried out free of charge at authorized dealerships across India. The recall process will commence in a phased manner starting November 5, 2024. Honda will contact the owners of the affected vehicles individually, ensuring they are aware of the necessary repairs.

For customers unsure if their car is included in the recall, Honda has provided a solution. Owners can visit Honda Cars India’s official website and enter their 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to check if their vehicle is part of the recall. Additionally, those who had the fuel pump replaced as a spare between June 2017 and October 2023 can verify their vehicle’s status through any authorized Honda showroom.

Given the critical nature of fuel pump functionality, it is essential for affected vehicle owners to address this recall promptly. Faulty impellers can cause significant safety concerns if left unchecked. Honda’s proactive recall is a preventive measure to ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicles.

As Honda initiates this recall, the company aims to maintain its commitment to customer safety and satisfaction, while rectifying the issue without financial burden on the car owners.

With over 92,000 cars impacted, this recall is one of the largest Honda has seen in recent times. If you own a Honda Brio, Jazz, WR-V, BR-V, Amaze, or City manufactured between August 2017 and June 2018, it is advisable to check your vehicle’s recall status and take immediate action.
