Suzuki has unveiled the production model of its first all-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, derived from the Maruti eVX concept. Debuting in Milan, this midsize electric SUV will enter the competitive Indian EV market, going up against the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Mahindra BE 05.

Key Specifications and Features

The e-Vitara will be manufactured in Gujarat, with half of the production allocated for exports to Japan and Europe. Despite its global launch in Italy, India will get its first look at the SUV in January 2025 at the Bharat Mobility Show, followed by an official market release in March 2025.

  • Design: Retaining much of the bold styling from the eVX concept, the e-Vitara showcases a rugged yet refined design. Key features include tri-slash LED lights, large wheel arches with dark cladding, and rear C-pillar-mounted door handles for a modern touch.
  • Dimensions and Build: At 4,275mm long and with a 2,700mm wheelbase, it provides ample space for a comfortable cabin layout. Ground clearance of 180mm ensures compatibility with Indian roads.
  • Platform and Powertrain: Built on Suzuki’s new Heartect-e skateboard platform developed with Toyota, it includes a unique eAxle system, integrating motor and inverter for an efficient drivetrain. Buyers will have two battery options—49kWh and 61kWh—powering either an FWD or AWD system (called AllGrip-e).
  • Battery and Range: Using BYD’s LFP blade cells, the 61kWh variant is expected to deliver over 500km on global test cycles. The e-AllGrip AWD version generates up to 184hp and 300Nm torque, while the base 49kWh version provides a respectable 144hp.

Interior and Tech

Inside, the e-Vitara promises a significant upgrade from Maruti’s existing models. Highlights include a dual-screen infotainment setup, flat-bottom steering, USB ports, and spacious storage. Features such as an electronic parking brake, adaptive cruise control, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity add to the appeal. Notable safety features include side and curtain airbags, lane-keep assist, and hill descent control.

Pricing and Competition

Expected to start around ₹20 lakh for the base model, the e-Vitara is positioned competitively against the MG ZS EV. The top-tier AWD version could reach ₹30 lakh. This SUV marks Suzuki’s entry into India’s growing EV market, setting the stage for future electric models from the brand, including an all-electric MPV.

With its focus on reliability and user-friendliness, the e-Vitara could be a solid contender in India’s EV market, aiming to meet both local and global demands.
