Skoda’s newest sub-four-meter SUV, the Kylaq, is set to make its debut in India on December 2, 2024, with bookings opening the same day. Priced from ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kylaq brings Skoda’s European design and technology to the highly competitive compact SUV segment, going up against models like the Tata Nexon. This model will be available in four variants: Classic, Signature, Signature+, and Prestige, each offering a unique set of features to cater to various customer preferences.

1. Classic Variant

The Classic variant is designed as an entry-level trim, balancing affordability with essential features to make it accessible to a wide range of buyers.

  • Exterior: This variant features Skoda’s signature butterfly grille and LED DRLs. It’s fitted with standard wheels and body-colored ORVMs.
  • Interior: Inside, the Classic offers a minimalist setup with essential functions, a basic infotainment system, and manual air conditioning.
  • Safety: Equipped with standard safety features, including ABS, dual airbags, electronic stability control, and hill-hold control.
  • Technology: While this variant lacks some high-tech features, it includes Skoda’s “Simply Clever” elements, such as multiple storage spaces, smartphone holders, and coat hooks.
  • Engine & Transmission: Powered by the same 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine, producing 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, with options for a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

2. Signature Variant

The Signature variant introduces additional comfort and style features, appealing to those looking for an enhanced driving experience.

  • Exterior: Signature models gain chrome accents, black roof rails, and 16-inch alloy wheels, offering a premium look.
  • Interior: Upgraded upholstery and additional interior lighting enhance the cabin ambiance. This variant also includes a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Comfort: Automatic climate control and rear AC vents add to the comfort level, making it a practical choice for city commutes and long drives.
  • Safety: In addition to the standard safety package, the Signature variant may include ISOFIX child seat anchors, a rear parking camera, and front fog lamps.

3. Signature+ Variant

Positioned as a high-tech and comfort-focused option, the Signature+ variant is ideal for buyers seeking additional luxury and technology features.

  • Exterior: Enhanced with larger 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-tone body paint, and full LED projector headlamps, adding a sophisticated and sporty edge.
  • Interior: Features a 13-inch floating infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, and ambient lighting to set the mood.
  • Convenience: Keyless entry, push-button start, and ventilated front seats are standard in this trim, aimed at providing a luxurious in-car experience.
  • Safety and Driver Assistance: Advanced safety features such as a tire pressure monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist make this variant more appealing for highway driving.

4. Prestige Variant

The Prestige variant stands at the top of the Kylaq lineup, combining premium features, advanced safety, and state-of-the-art technology for a fully-loaded driving experience.

  • Exterior: The Prestige variant is distinguished by a panoramic sunroof, LED matrix headlights, and 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels for an upscale appearance.
  • Interior: Premium materials are used throughout, including leather seats, an electric sunroof with anti-pinch technology, and a spacious cabin with adjustable seats.
  • High-Tech Features: In addition to the digital displays and wireless connectivity options, this variant includes a head-up display, 14-speaker Canton audio system, and four USB-C charging ports.
  • Safety: Equipped with Skoda’s full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including emergency braking, collision warning, and a 360-degree camera system, making it one of the safest options in its class.

Engine Specifications and Performance

All variants of the Skoda Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. This engine provides efficient city driving and ample power for highway journeys, suited for both daily commutes and weekend adventures.

Color Options

The Kylaq is available in five color choices: Olive Gold, Tornado Red, Carbon Steel, Brilliant Silver, and Candy White, offering a variety of looks to match different tastes.

Pricing and Positioning

The Kylaq’s base price of ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom) makes it a competitive entry in the compact SUV market, with the higher trims expected to approach the ₹12 lakh mark depending on the features and customization.

Conclusion

The Skoda Kylaq presents a well-rounded package, from the affordable Classic variant to the feature-rich Prestige variant, providing options to suit different budgets and preferences. With Skoda’s European design language, advanced safety features, and powerful engine, the Kylaq is well-positioned to challenge established models in India’s compact SUV market, such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, and Hyundai Venue.
