Kia is set to expand its Indian lineup with a new compact SUV, likely named the Syros or Clavis. This model embodies Kia’s “Design 2.0” philosophy, blending advanced features with spacious interiors and robust design. Drawing inspiration from the EV9 and Carnival Limousine, the Syros features a distinctive, boxy silhouette with functional roof rails, tall pillars, and flush door handles, creating a modern, muscular stance that prioritizes both aesthetic appeal and utility.

Exterior Highlights

The Syros’ design introduces Kia’s bold, upright front fascia featuring vertical LED daytime running lights and a clamshell bonnet that dips sharply toward the grille. The rear highlights high-mounted L-shaped LED tail lamps, giving the SUV a wraparound effect that accentuates its stance. The raised rear window line and slightly flared wheel arches contribute to the SUV’s rugged look, which is enhanced with functional body cladding.

Interior Comfort and Technology

Though official images of the interior haven’t been released, Kia suggests that the Syros will offer a “lounge-like” cabin tailored for comfort and functionality. Thanks to the tallboy layout, the Syros is expected to deliver superior headroom and rear seat comfort—ideal for family-focused buyers. Kia plans to equip higher trims with premium features like ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, and panoramic sunroof. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), an ambient lighting setup, and in-car connected features are also anticipated.

Powertrain Options

The Syros is expected to be available with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric powertrain options, aligning with Kia’s goal of appealing to diverse customer needs. Initially, it is speculated that the SUV will launch with two ICE options: a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 82 bhp and a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 118 bhp, both paired with a five-speed manual or AMT transmission. An EV variant may follow, with Kia aiming to offer eco-friendly alternatives to the traditional engine lineup.

Segment Positioning and Market Launch

Positioned above the Kia Sonet, the Syros is set to enter the competitive sub-4-meter SUV market, where it will rival models like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, and Skoda Kylaq. With a starting price expected to be under INR 10 lakh, the Syros aims to cater to consumers looking for a compact yet feature-rich SUV with a premium edge. Kia has slated the Syros’ release for early 2025, with the model anticipated to create a new niche within the compact SUV segment.

Kia’s Vision with the Syros

The Kia Syros reflects the company’s commitment to “Kia 2.0,” a brand evolution focused on delivering safety, technology, spacious design, and elevated aesthetics. According to Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director & CEO of Kia India, this new SUV has been indigenously designed with Indian customer needs in mind. It aims to provide segment-first features, excellent performance, and the comfort desired by today’s discerning buyers, making it a strong contender in India’s evolving automotive landscape.
