Maruti Suzuki has taken a game-changing step in India’s budget car segment by making the Alto K10 the most affordable car in India with 6 airbags. This major safety update comes alongside electronic aids like ESP, ABS, and EBD, ensuring enhanced protection for passengers. However, this upgrade also comes at a cost, with prices increasing by up to ₹16,000 across variants.

Price Hike and Variant-Wise Changes

While the addition of 6 airbags is a welcome move, it has impacted the pricing of the Alto K10. The updated ex-showroom prices are:

LXI CNG5.905.846,000

Alto K10: Standard Safety Features

Maruti has significantly upgraded the safety features of the Alto K10 to comply with new regulations and improve its reputation. The standard safety package now includes:

  • 6 Airbags (Driver, Co-Driver, Curtain & Side Airbags)
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) & Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • 3-Point Seatbelts for All Rear Passengers
  • Luggage Retention Crossbars

Engine & Performance: No Mechanical Changes

Despite the safety update, there are no mechanical changes to the Alto K10. The hatchback continues to be powered by the 1.0L K10C petrol engine, producing 67 HP. Transmission options remain the same, with a 5-speed manual or AMT, along with a CNG variant. The engine is now E20 fuel-compatible, making it future-ready for ethanol-blended fuel.

Alto K10’s Legacy & Market Impact

Maruti has sold over 46 lakh units of the Alto in India since its launch in 2000, and 74% of Alto K10 buyers are first-time car owners. With this update, Maruti aims to redefine safety standards in the entry-level car segment.

Final Thoughts: A Game-Changer for Budget Buyers?

With the introduction of 6 airbags, the Alto K10 is now the safest and most affordable hatchback in India. While the price hike might concern some buyers, the added safety features make it a value-for-money choice for first-time car buyers.
