Mahindra is set to make a significant leap in India’s electric vehicle (EV) segment with the unveiling of two new electric brands, XEV and BE, at the “Unlimit India” event in Chennai on November 26, 2024. They have recently launched a teaser video that reveals crucial details about the future of the two upcoming brands. This move represents the company’s largest step in the EV market, following its initial foray with the Mahindra XUV400. The upcoming electric SUVs, the XEV 9e and BE 6e, will each represent a brand and will be built on Mahindra’s dedicated electric INGLO architecture, designed exclusively for electric vehicles.
New EV Lineup: Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6e
The XEV 9e and BE 6e will be Mahindra’s first all-electric, born-EV SUVs based on a skateboard platform that positions the battery under the floor for optimal space utilisation. The XEV 9e, positioned under the XEV brand, is expected to offer a luxurious, high-tech experience with striking design elements and a feature-rich cabin. The BE 6e, under the BE brand, takes a sportier approach, aligning with Mahindra’s focus on catering to drivers seeking a dynamic, performance-oriented EV.
Both models will showcase Mahindra’s future design philosophy, featuring a bold front fascia, upright design with LED Daytime Running Lights, and sleek connected light bars. Their sport-inspired profiles include large, aero-styled alloy wheels and muscular wheel arches, enhancing the SUVs’ stance. The BE 6e, derived from the BE.05 concept, is expected to feature a panoramic sunroof, flat-bottom steering wheel, ambient lighting, and a triple-screen layout in the cabin, emphasising a modern and spacious interior.
Key Specifications and Expected Performance
The Mahindra BE 6e will compete with recent models like the Tata Curvv EV, powered by a Valeo-supplied electric motor producing 231 hp and 380 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels. It is expected to offer two battery options: a 60 kWh and a 79 kWh pack, the latter likely providing a range of over 450 km based on the WLTP cycle. The XEV 9e, meanwhile, could lead to additional models, such as the anticipated XEV 8e based on the XUV.e8 concept.
Mahindra has kept detailed specifications of both models under wraps, but teasers reveal the models undergoing rigorous public road tests. The design and feature-rich approach of the XEV 9e and BE 6e aim to deliver a modern, high-performance EV experience, making Mahindra a stronger competitor in India’s burgeoning electric SUV market.
With a clear commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility, Mahindra’s upcoming electric SUVs promise to redefine the EV landscape in India, offering a blend of performance, technology, and sustainability for a new generation of drivers.
